Water conditioner for aquarium can be used in a pond as well.  The principal is the same between the two very different types of fish tanks.  One is stable in your home and the other is located in a natural setting.  But both types do need to be kept clean and free from tap water contaminants.

You want to make sure that your koi pond is deep and large enough to contain the amount of koi that you plan on keeping in your pond.  This will help you to take care of them better and you will not lose as many fish.  Koi are expensive and you do not want them to die simply because you did not have a large enough pond.
